Partie de Campagne

TITLE: Partie de campagne

YEAR OF PRODUCTION : 2022

DURATION: 1 minute

TECHNIQUE: 2D Animation

Fernand Léger's painting Déjeuner sur l’herbe immediately inspired me with its rich characters and narrative potential. While studying its connection to Le Déjeuner sur l’herbe by Édouard Manet (1863), I wanted to illustrate the joy of the first paid vacations in 1936 and the spirit of holiday getaways.

The unique atmosphere of Léger's painting, with its bright colors and bold black outlines, also reminded me of the animated film U by Serge Elissalde. To enhance the particular mood I wanted to convey, I incorporated music from this film into my short animation.

My story revolves around a contrast: it begins in a dramatic atmosphere (a car accident and the dark night) and evolves into a joyful and hopeful ending (the car is repaired, and the journey can continue). I also integrated references to The Birth of Venus by Alexandre Cabanel, inspiring the scene where a young woman emerges from the sea.

The animation was created digitally using Clip Studio Paint."
